Confession. Rousseau J.-J.
Jean-Jacques Russo (1712–1778)-an outstanding thinker and writer of the Enlightenment, a person woven from contradictions, remaining in history as a bold and unorthodox thinker. In “Confession”, amazing in frankness (at least for the 18th century), Rousseau describes in detail fifty -three years of his life. This is an attempt to expose the true motives of a person’s actions and - almost always - find excuses for them. Rousseau does not conceal what he stole, gave his own children to the educational house, lived at the expense of rich ladies, shares the most secret feelings. He writes how he was fond of people and how he tore with them, describes all his grievances and bitter errors. The characters in his narrative are Didro, Voltaire, Baron von Grimm, and many women supportive for him. This essay was made to the court of the general public only four years after the death of the author, in 1782.
