The system of contracts in the electric power industry in Russian legislation is due to the reform of the industry and its adaptation to the conditions of the market economy. At the same time, the reform did not achieve one of its main goals-the formation of developed competition in the wholesale and retail markets of electric energy.

despite the greater law-making work aimed at regulating contractual relations in the field of electric power industry, still remains a lot problematic issues of both theoretical and practical nature. The problems of contractual interaction between the subjects of the electric power industry, as well as between them and consumers (so, do not form the optimal system of contracts are not resolved; freedom of discretion of electric power and consumers when formulating contractual conditions is significantly limited due to the predominance of imperative norms of legislation; there is a problem of consumer payment discipline). The judicial practice does not help to overcome these problems, which is not always distinguished by uniformity.

The monograph analyzes the main problems of legal regulation of contractual relations in the field of electric power industry, the author’s classification of such agreements is formulated, the legal nature of electric energy as an object of civil rights is investigated , the features of contractual relations in the wholesale and retail markets of electric energy were identified, the prospects for the legal regulation of contracts in the field of renewable energy and distributed generation were considered.
