Conversations about Russian culture. Lotman Yu.
Yuri Mikhailovich Lotman - a world -famous scientist, philologist and culturologist, whose works are translated into all major European languages. His heritage is extremely extensive and has about eight hundred scientific and popular science articles and books. He was destined to become the head of the whole scientific school, which developed new methods of analyzing the literary text, alien to the official Soviet literary criticism. Like many outstanding scientists, Yu. M. Lotman was difficult to remain within the framework of one scientific discipline: his research was devoted not only to the literature of the 18th and XIX centuries, but also by the history of Russian social thought, the theory of art, and cultural studies. In the late 1980s, he gave a lecture on the life and traditions of the Russian nobility on television, on the basis of the television cycle, the book “Conversations of Russian Culture” was created. The scientist’s interest in this topic was organically related to the study of the works of Russian literature of the first third of the XIX century.
