Conversations. Epictete

Epictete, following the example of Socrates, only out loud settled his thoughts, so the “conversations” reached us in the recording of his student, later the famous historian Arrian. His philosophy preaches the philanthropy and purity of the soul, defends the equality of all people.

The main task of philosophy is to teach to distinguish what to do in human powers and what is not. The changes are not subject to the outside world and external circumstances. Not things, but only ideas about them make people happy or unhappy. Thoughts, aspirations are subject to us, and therefore our happiness.
