, after the death of his parents, the little Kate was sheltered by the poor family of Rev. Wardur. She sincerely loves the adoptive father and is quite happy. But by irony of fate to Kate, the count's title and a huge fortune suddenly crosses. In accordance with her new position, the girl is now forced to live in the house of guardians who are trying in every possible way to protect their wards from the influence of the former family.
The story was written in 1862. The book was translated into Russian in 1865 and has not been reprinted since then. In this publication, the text is given in literary processing.
Charlota Mary Young (Charlotte Mary Yonge; her surname is sometimes transliterated as Yong, Jung or Yonge) (1823-1901)-a popular English writer and a brilliant teacher of the XIX century. Young was also the founder and for forty years the editor of the The Monthly Packet founded in 1851. Her Peru belongs to more than 160 works, most of which are historical and sentimental novels (Russian readers are best known to the “Heir to the Redcliffe estate” and “Daisy Chain”).
