Crime and punishment are one of the most significant works in the history of world literature. Conceived as a “psychological report of one crime”, Dostoevsky’s novel appeared before the reader of a grandiose artistic and philosophical study of human nature, a Christian tragedy about the death and resurrection of the soul. It is described about the biography of Fedor Mikhailovich, about the history of the creation of a worldwide masterpiece. Reliable facts from the detective cases of pre -revolutionary Russia are given. The most interesting events created by Dostoevsky of the philosophical novel here are intertwined with the real life of people and transferred to the streets of the beautiful city of the planet. The book contains rare species of St. Petersburg taken at the very beginning of the appearance of photography in Russia, in the second half of the 19th century. The documentary evidence of that time is no less interesting. Work on additional materials was done with the assistance of employees of the Museum of F. M. Dostoevsky.
