“Crime and Punishment” (1866) is one of the most famous novels by Fedor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, who influenced all the further development of Russian literature. In September 1865, in a letter to the editor to M. I. Katkov, Dostoevsky reported work on a new book, whose hero, who lives in extreme poverty Rodon Raskolnikov, decided to get out of his nasty position at once, killing and robbing an old prospector. The money received in this way, Raskolnikov wanted to use for good goals and "then to be... steadily in the performance of a humane duty to humanity." The work was conceived as a “psychological report of one crime”, however, Dostoevsky is far from the initial plans and creates a new model of the novel, in which he poses the most important issues to the reader - about faith, conscience, sin and atonement, the boundaries of the permitted, about spiritual death and resurrection.
