“Crime and Punishment” is a novel about one crime. Double murder committed by a poor student due to money. It is difficult to find a plot easier, but the intellectual and sincere shock that the novel produces is indelible. What is the riddle here? In addition to a simple and obvious answer - “in Dostoevsky’s genius” - perhaps there is at least one more: the “damned” questions do not have simple and positive answers. Poverty, their own suffering and suffering of loved ones always put and will put a person before the choice: do I have the right to transgress any moral law, then to become a savior humiliated and the comforter of the weak; Should I first love myself, and only then, having become strong, to love my neighbor? These are eternal questions.
