Before becoming a writer, he tried many professions related to monitoring of animals.

He was a beast, an ichthyologist, a zoo caretaker, an ornithologist... He swam the sailor in the Pacific Ocean, visited various expeditions, wandered with geologists in Eastern Siberia, was a fishman, a hunter. It is not easy for him to remember all his routes. Yakutia, White Sea, Tuva, Arctic, Turkmenistan, Kuril Islands, Buryatia, Mountain Altai, Kamchatka... - He has been in these parts more than once. He knew all the reserves, taiga and tundra, desert and mountains, seas and rivers. The discoveries and impressions received in these travels became the basis of his wonderful stories for children.
