Dark figures. Social and philosophical analysis of John Carpenter's films. Degtyarev E.O.
The book is the first attempt by the socio-philosophical understanding of the cinema of John Carpenter in Russian. “Halloween”, “something”, “strangers among us” and many other paintings of a cult director have long been considered classics and traditionally attract the attention of cinema researchers. However, even in the West, they infrequently become the subject of systemic reflection using a consistent scientific methodology. Turning to the concept of the “political unconscious” of Fredrick Jamison, Evgeny Degtyarev claims that Carpenter films broadcast ideological content even from the director himself. According to Degtyarev, the analysis of this content and the socio-historical context in which it arose will help to better understand the meaning of the individual films of the horror master and the significance of his heritage for the popular culture as a whole.
The monograph will undoubtedly attract the attention of both specialists - film experts, culturologists and philosophers, as well as the widest circle of readers who are interested in modern cinema and mass culture.
