The book includes the immortal poem of the great Russian writer N.V. Gogol “Dead Souls” and the articles of wonderful Russian critics K. S. Aksakov and V. G. Belinsky, as well as the essays of the famous modern literary critic V. A. Voropaev. Illustrations for the poem placed in the book were created in the middle of the 19th century by the founder of the Russian genre illustration by A. A. Agin, engraved on the tree by its employee E. E. Bernard.
