Demons. Dostoevsky F.M.
Demons (1871-1872)-probably, the most prophetic novel by Dostoevsky. Initially conceived as an acute -political thing based on the impressions of the writer from the “Nechaev process”: a group of revolutionaries was tried for the murder of a student who decided to get out of their circle - the novel far exchanged a work on the “anger of the day.”
before our eyes. The readers unfold the real drama: in the center of the story, a group of nihilists, led by Peter Verkhovensky, planning to raise the turmoil throughout Russia. The main character of the novel by Nikolai Stavrogin - his own secret, his terrible sin and his own great trouble - he is completely devastated, and life no longer represents any interest for him. Events in the novel are swinging in front of the reader, get confused into some kind of monstrous ball and as a result are resolved by tragedy.
the present in Dostoevsky’s novel is closely connected with the past: he sees the origins of nihilistic moods in children in their idealist fathers, completely unknown to Russia. But the uniqueness of “demons” is also that, on the example of these characters, Dostoevsky paints all of Russia obsessed with demons - yesterday, today, tomorrow madness haunts us.
