The Sensus of the American journalist Scott Ritter tells the history of the conclusion and fulfillment of obligations under an agreement on the liquidation of medium and low-range missiles (RSMD). The long-term struggle for peace and disarmament reached its climax in the late 1980s and coincided with the time of global changes in the USSR-perestroika. Scott Ritter shows the attitude of the American government to the issues of disarmament and control of nuclear weapons. Being a direct participant in events, the author shares memories of the work of American arms control inspectors at the Votkinsk plant, which produced a medium and short -range missiles.
The book describes various ways to control the Soviet defense plant, the interaction of various American special services and organizations, the life of American inspectors in the Soviet Union and the author’s personal impressions of the USSR, Votkinsk and its inhabitants.
