Dog's heart. Stories. Bulgakov M.A.

Mikhail Afanasevich Bulgakov (1891–1940) began to write the story “Dog Heart” in 1925, shortly after registering his marriage with the love of Evgenievna Belozerskaya, who had recently returned to Russia. The story contained many critical attacks against the situation that developed in Soviet Russia after the revolution, so during the life of Bulgakov it was never printed. K. M. Simonov, for many years, former the chairman of the writer’s literary heritage commission and did a lot to publish his works, noted in 1967 about the “dog heart”: “This thing is complicated, difficult for publication even now.”

The dynamic scenes of the "dog heart" in this edition are adorned with illustrations of the talented contemporary artist Maxim Popovsky. Bulgakov’s stories accompany the drawings of Nikolai Ernestovich Radlov (1889–1942) in this book. The future artist was born in 1889 in the family of a member of the Academy of Sciences and director of the public library Ernest Lvovich Radlov. Nikolai began to draw at school. When studying at the History and Philology Faculty of St. Petersburg University, Radlov managed to attend classes at the Academy of Arts. He could become an academician artist, but chose the path of the cartoonist. Radlov had an amazing talent to depict short stories in the form of a series of consistent scenes. In 1937, his collection “Stories in Pictures” was published with ridiculous drawn stories for children. This book was a fantastic success, was translated into English and received a prize at the International Children's Book Competition in the USA.
