A sled dog is probably the only animal that does its job with pleasure. The horse, for example, does not really like to roll a rider. The elephant transfers logs only because it is forced to do it. The deer pulls sledges with sad humility. And only the northern dog, before it will be harnessed to the sledges, joyfully slices from excitement. Of course, there are lazy people among sled dogs. But still, for most of them, work is in joy.

coastal Chukchi and Eskimos until recently did not think of their life without sled dogs. The polar studies of Europeans significantly advanced forward only when the expeditions in the middle of the 19th century began to use dog teams. The Russian pioneers got acquainted with this mode of transport even earlier - at least in the first half of the 18th century.

Of course, in our time the dogs in the role of transport were greatly spent by the technique. However, the art of driving on them did not disappear: the races on the dogs became sports. And it’s good that this is so - after all, even the most modern snowmobile does not know how to find the road itself, when the snowstorm is going, does not learn the bear and will not become a real friend to you.
