Cervantes’s novel “Don Quixote” is still one of the most published books in the world, according to the number of languages ​​that he is on The novel is inferior only to the Bible.

In the late 1960s, the artist Savva Brodsky took up, as he himself put it, for the thousandth variation of the illustration of the novel and again began to rinse the great book in his heart, like gold-bearing sand (drawing Heroes of Cervantes, the artist began another schoolboy). What is important and unusually valuable - Brodsky did not divide the world, as is customary, into Don Quixote and Sancho Pans. According to his visual version, one Don Quixote or one Sancho cannot exist, just as only one side of the coin cannot exist. The exalted knight is an obstructive squire relentlessly: one personifies the idea, the other - its practical use.

But in the illustrations of Brodsky there is also a third character - the cracked land that goes into the merciless distance. In this human desert, the bright faith of Don Quixote was born into truth, requiring service and sacrifice.
