Prose of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799-1837) is as energetic and emergent as the verses of the great poet. Small in volume, it unfolds a deep and historically true picture of time, life and morals before the reader, and the true Russian character was reflected in the images of the heroes: passionate and contradictory.

The publication included two novels: “Dubrovsky”, in The basis of which lies a real case from life, and the “Captain's daughter” is the story of the growing heroes against the backdrop of Pugachev's uprising. These works are united by the theme of “noble robbers”. And only we decide how fair they were in their right to robbery and revenge. The ideals of personality freedom, rejection of oppression combined in them with cruelty and the lack of moral law in the soul. But human feelings, love and mercy still turn out to be stronger than the “meaningless and merciless Russian riot.”
