Every time has its own ideals, its own romance, its own favorites. In the Middle Ages, for example, everyone worshiped the knights. And at the end of the XVIII - beginning of the 19th century, European society was passionate about the stories of duels. In the West, the Russian duel was called “barbarism”, since in Russia preference was given not to cold weapons, but to pistols and shot not like in Europe, from thirty steps, but almost at point -blank - from ten. Lying on a duel for more than 15 minutes was considered evasion of the duel, and hence the loss of honor. Russian writers fired often and sometimes for insignificant reasons.
