Thinker, theologian, historian, church and public figure Anton Vladimirovich Kartashev (1875-1960) was an iconic figure in the domestic religious Renaissance at the beginning of the 20th century, and later the first wave of Russian emigration. The book "Ecumenical Councils", first published in 1963. After the death of its author, is an experience of ancient church history and at the same time at the same time a systematic presentation of the events of the IV-VII centuries. At the Ecumenical Councils - meetings of the Higher clergy - the system of creed and cult was developed and approved, canonical norms and liturgical rules were formed, various theological concepts were evaluated, and the methods of combating the heresies were determined. Seven parts dedicated to seven universal cathedrals contain not only a description of what happened on the cathedrals themselves, but also their background, the ripening of their decisions and not even directly related to the theme of the cathedrals, important milestones and theological disputes.

The book will be useful to theological , religious scholars, historians and all studying the history of the Church and its creed.
