Enemy Goebbels No. 3. Zhitomirsky V.A.

The artist Alexander Zhitomirsky went down in the history of fine art primarily as the author of political photomonta. During the war years with fascism, his work was printed on leaflets addressed to the enemy soldiers and served for them with a kind of “capture of captivity”. The enemy generals issued an order forbidden to “collect Russian leaflets”, and after defeating on the Volga, they were already shot for their storage. The Propaganda Reichman Goebbels, having learned with the help of his agents, who makes illustrations for the "Front of illustrates", introduced the name Zhitomirsky on the list of his personal enemies under No. 3 (after Levitan and Ehrenburg). These people needed to "find and hang." Employees of the Front illustrates worked without sparing themselves, there were four hours left.

The artist recalled: “All my thoughts were focused on propaganda among the enemy troops. In order to maintain the remnants of internal balance, I came up with a little outlet. Before going to bed, I spent forty minutes outside the war. On the left page he wrote that he would remember from the pre -war past. On the right I made a sketch - an illustration to the text. "

This unique diary became the basis of the book “Enemy of Goebbels No. 3”, which was written in memory of his father the artist’s son, journalist and writer Vladimir Zhitomirsky.
