The textbook was prepared by teachers of medical and philological faculties of St. Petersburg State University under the general leadership of the head of the Department of Pathology of the Medical Department of the medical faculty of St. Petersburg State University L. P. Churilov with the participation of Medicine Medicine S. G. Khanikatta (US (Great Britain).

The manual uses an audiomaterial based on an authentic text and voiced by carriers of the doctor-doctors by professionals who know both the Anglo-American and domestic health and medical education. There were no books of this type in the practice of the Russian Higher Medical School, although analogues were created and widely popular abroad. The manual is based on teaching a language through a professional subject of medicine. It contains copyright texts, which are fragments of textbooks of pathophysiology and propaedeutics of internal diseases.

When studying it at 2-4 courses, the parallelity of the development of the corresponding topics of these medical subjects with teaching English, the involvement of medical students into foreign language speech activity by integrating language and vocational training. The manual is written vividly and interestingly, contains many historical and medical facts, biographies of well-known English-speaking and Russian-speaking medical scientists who are used as educational material, and can be successfully applied in the English language by graduate students and applicants of medical specialties, recommended for the postgraduate learning of doctors, will be of interest to doctors who are educated in Russia and continuing their careers in English -speaking countries, especially since its authors either taught medicine in English in domestic and foreign universities, or they themselves received a doctor’s diploma in Russia and successfully work in a specialty in English -speaking countries. Foreign students studying in Russia can use the book as a manual for better mastery of domestic courses of pathology, immunology, internal diseases and the history of medicine.
