English has long been penetrated into all spheres of human activity and has become an instrument of integration into a global society. Learning the English language is recognized as a necessity in most countries of the world. However, if at school the emphasis is on the development of the course “General English”, then when teaching English at the university, the mastery of academic skills and professional communication skills come to the fore. These two aspects formed the basis of this textbook, which covers the first part of the practical course “English for Orientalists”. The course is built on the principles of a communicative approach to the study of English and includes four types of speech activity: listening, reading (Reading), speaking (Speaking), Writing, as well as the study of grammar and vocabulary. The main goal of the textbook is the development of students as academic skills (writing essays, annotations, abstracts, performing with a presentation, participation in round tables and debate), as well as skills in the field of English for special purposes (mastering the English -language terminology of a future specialty, acquaintance with culturological , economic, historical, political realities of the region being studied). The allowance “English for orientalists” is based on authentic English-language material dedicated to the countries of the East Asian region, and consists of six parts (Units): unit 1. anime (Japan); Unit 2. Brands (China); Unit 3. Education (Korea); Unit 4. Art (Far East); Unit 5. Innovative technologies (Japan); Unit 6. Asian lifestyle (Far East). The textbook is designed for students of the bachelor's office of the Eastern Statement of the Department of Oriental Studies and provides for students of the level of communicative competence in English in the range B2+ - C1.
