Entertaining stories about Russian artists. Apresyan A.
For what did Vasily Vereshchagin call the author of the “phenomenon of Christ the people” frivolous? Why did the hero of the war of 1812 enter the workshop of Ivan Aivazovsky? What connects Alexander Pushkin’s drama and the famous picture of Isaac Levitan? Why did the St. Petersburg and Moscow youth bowed Natalia Goncharova?
at the last time, quite a lot of different publications about domestic painting come out, so I did not want to create another “history of Russian art” or some serious reference book. It turned out, rather, a collection of entertaining stories about the life and work of some famous painters, in which, nevertheless, there is no hint of any “yellowness”: the sources were the memories of the artists and their friends, articles of eminent critics and art historians, and also other documents.
