Vasily Vasilievich Vereshchagin (1842–1904)-Batalist artist, author of the famous work “Apotheosis of the War”. He traveled a lot, visited the Caucasus, in Europe, in China, India and Siberia. He was a member of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 and the Russian-Japanese War, where he died at the front with Admiral S.O. Makarov. Vasily Vereshchagin is famous not only as an artist, but also as a talented writer. From under his pen came 12 books and many articles both in the domestic and in the foreign press.
The present edition included travel notes and household sketches, first published in 1883 in the book “Essays, Sketches, Memories”, as well as notebooks.
