For the first time, a cognitive and cultural-semiotic study of coding of topics and death in euphemisms and riddles is carried out in the book. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the complex study of euphemisms and riddles as signs of language and culture, their systemic koga -cultural description are developed. On the wide material of euphemisms and riddles of the Russian -speaking and English -speaking cultures, methods of indirect nomination in euphemisms and riddles on the topics of birth and death are described. A framework analysis and cultural commenting of metaphorical and non -metaphorical units on the topics of birth and death are carried out.
