Evening on Khopra. Zagoskin M.
Mikhail Nikolaevich Zagoskin (1789-1852)-the most popular writer of the XIX century, playwright, participant in the Patriotic War of 1812, director of Moscow theaters and the Moscow arms chamber. He became famous as the author of the first Russian historical novels, however, his characteristic gift of a magnificent narrator allowed Zagoskin to perfectly prove himself in another literary genre. The cycle of stories “Evening on Khopre” is a wonderful example of Russian mysticism and is not inferior in fascinating “evenings on a farm near Dikanka” by N.V. Gogol. In this work, the author miraculously managed to combine Russian folklore motifs with samples of Western European Gothic prose: on the pages of the book you will meet ghosts, ghosts, and wild hunting, and much more. Six colorful phantasmagoric plots written in an excellent figurative language, with bright enchanting flavor and truly Russian heroic characters - “terrible tales” of Mikhail Zagoskin will give you a genuine pleasure.
