The “Examiner” and “Marriage” included in this collection are two wonderful satirical comedies of Gogol, two masterpieces of classical Russian comedyography, for almost one and a half centuries not coming from the best scenes of our country and repeatedly filmed. What makes these works relevant? It’s not that the types, so brilliantly described by Gogol, are the wandered lazy officials, provincial nouveau riche and their ridiculous chic daughters, cowardly grooms, not ready to part with a bachelor's debt, and lively assertive matchmakers, are often found to us now ?
