False-neon. Jeffai and his daughter. Feikhtwanger L.
In 1936, the novel “False-Neron” was published in Amsterdam-a work of the outstanding German writer Lyon Feihtwanger, who shortly before published the first and second part of the epic “Joseph Flavia” trilogy. The plot, affected in the process of working on this monumental historical canvas about the ancient Roman historian of Jewish origin, inspired Feikhtwanger to dedicate a separate novel of the history of the potter of Terentius, who declared himself a miraculous emperor Nero. And to this day, this compact, almost accidentally born novel remains one of the most beloved in the creative heritage of Feihtwangger for many of his admirers.
The novel “Ieffai and his daughter”, also included in the collection, in many ways the peak of the work of Feihtwangger. It again sounds a Jewish theme, which more or less clearly found expression in most of its works. But, in addition, this novel is the fruit of perennial thoughts about the fate of the biblical Ieffay, who struck the author in childhood, about the tragic confrontation of man with a fatal combination of circumstances. The novel "Jeffai and his daughter" was published a year before the death of the writer.
