The book “Father Arseny” does not have a single author, this is a collection of stories about the life of real and possibly fictional priests with similar fate, characteristic of the time of persecution of the Russian Church in the 20th century, collectively which was the Father Arseny. This type of narrative, rooted in folklore and life literature, was distributed in medieval Rus'.

This collection appeared in Samizdat in the 1970s, when the temples were closed and believers were looking for support and comfort, including in reading books about Christianity, illegally reprinted by hand and distributed. One of these books was the collection “Father Arseny” with stories about the true Christian faith, about the exploits of the new martyrs, about the power of prayer and the Christian spirit. The long life of this collection (it was reprinted the 1990s) suggests that the need for stories about the “good priest” and his spiritual children does not run out.
