Werner Albring, together with other German scientists and specialists, lived and worked on the small island of Gorodol. German specialists in controlled missiles were sent there in the fall of 1946 from the Soviet zone of the occupation of Germany. The author describes in detail how German engineers created the first Soviet ballistic missiles, among which were also designed to transport chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.
Life on the island had its own routine, but German scientists and techniques were not limited to work : Two competing theatrical troupes, a literary and philosophical circles acted on the island.
Despite the fact that only a small piece of Russia was available to the Germans for viewing, all members of the branch No. 1 had a tremendous influence.
