The plot is based on the story of the search for the book of predictions of the monk Abel, who is sometimes called "Russian Nostradamus." The monk Abel is a real historical face, but his figure is very mythologized, and the reliability of predictions has been causing fierce disputes for almost two hundred years. Roman is an attempt to talk about the phenomenon of prophecy, about the fate of Russia and the world, about true and far-fetched miracles and about such a difficult, but only saving path of man to God: not through the search for some signs that amaze, but through love, through suffering and repentance , through a difficult daily feat of overcoming yourself.
