The book of the famous Soviet military leader twice Hero of the Soviet Union of the Soviet Union Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov is devoted mainly to the combat path of the 62nd Army, transformed after the Stalingrad battle into the 8th Guards, which, together with other troops, defended Stalingrad from the enemy, participated in the liberation Donbass, Zaporozhye, Odessa, forced the Vistya, Oder and ended her fighting path with the storm of Berlin.

In his memoirs, the author relied on the documents of the time, as well as numerous evidence of eyewitnesses and participants in hostilities.
