The author seeks to combine an art history approach with a socio-anthropological: an attempt to consider the representation of mass moods and expectations, the technique of visual messages of the authorities and the reaction to them.

the genre of the book is very plastic. There are elements of a historical and artistic guide, a certain navigation in time and space is outlined. However, factual and local history interests are far from priority.

A fairly integral picture of dominant artistic styles is built: from modernity to several versions of constructivism and poststructivism, including the Leningrad art deco. Along with the works of large masters, quite an ordinary art production is also subject to consideration: sometimes typological things represent time and dominant style to no less than masterpieces.
