Walter MAP (1130/1135-1209/1210)-English clergyman and writer, was surrounded by the king of England Henry II Plantagenet, whose court in the second half of the XII century was an important cultural and literary center of Western Europe. MAP played a significant role in the intellectual environment of the English kingdom and, already during his lifetime, enjoyed the reputation of a witty among contemporaries. A native of Wales, he took part in the origin of the legend about King Arthur. The main essay of Walter MAP “Fun of the courtiers”-a bizarre interweaving of court gossip, folklore stories and stories-is rightly makes it one of the main figures of cultural Renaissance of the XII century.
