Diaries of 1939-1940, collected by their author - the German writer and philosopher Ernst Junger (1895-1998) - in the book "Gardens and Roads", open the sextet of his diaries of the Second World War, known under the general name "Radiation" ("Strahlungen"). The French translation of “Gardens and Roads”, published in 1942, in the same year with a German publication, largely defined the European glory of Junger as one of the outstanding stylists of the 20th century.
