Gender in Soviet unofficial art. Avramenko O.
What is a tender in an environment where tender identity has almost been articulated? How did you reflect sexuality, bodily, marriage, birth and education of children? In this book, the history of the Soviet art underground is first shown through the prism of tender research. With the help of this optics, art critic Olesya Avramenko builds new principles of comparative analysis of the works of Western and Soviet artists, starting with the process of forming in the USSR parallel culture, its existence during stagnation and ending with its splitting during the years of perestroika. Particular attention in the monograph is given to the history of Soviet gender policy, its influence on society and art.
Avramenko’s study is valuable not only with the depth of study of the problems posed, but also by unique material-an interview with participants in the art process and his eyewitnesses: Joseph Bakstein, Irina Nakhova, Vera Miturich-Khlebnikova, Andrei Monastyrsky, George Kizwalter and others.
