This book reveals to the reader the possibility of two similar programs similar to each other: Adobe Photoshop and the freely distributed GIMP package. The material presented in it was used by the author to give lectures at the South Ural State University for students of the specialty "Statistics" of the Faculty of Economics as part of the "Computer Publishing Systems" course, as well as for students of the "Communication with the Public" Faculty of Journalism in the framework of the course "Packages of Applied Applications programs ". The book is designed for those who are not professional designers: it tells not complex techniques for working with both programs, but the main techniques for quickly creating or editing images and installation of photographs are given. Special attention is paid to the issues of processing scanned images, drawing diagrams and working with the text, the basics of creating a photo collage, color and tone correction, issues of using various filters are also not left without attention. The book can be useful and wishing to quickly adapt when switching with Photoshop to GIMP or vice versa.
