Glinsky deserts

For almost four centuries, one of the important places among the Orthodox spiritual monastery was occupied by the Glinsky Christmas-Bogoroditsky dormitory deserts of the Kursk diocese. Since its occurrence, the Glinsky monastery was the focus of church life. The deserts were famous for the severity of the truly ascetic charter, the height of the spiritual life of its inhabitants, the special power of the religious and moral impact on the people, for whom it was always "the ideal of Christian worship and the place of spiritual feat." This was noted by many hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church, considering the Glinsky deserts the true school of monastic work, the "school of Christ." In the reports of the Holy Synod about the Kursk diocese, the ruling bishops called the Glinsky deserts "the best abode", and its elders - "decorating monasticism." The special position of the Glinsky desert among other monasteries was due to the following circumstances. Firstly, the obvious-goodwriting icon of the Christmas of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the desert-Galine and numerous miracles of the healing, made from her for the glory of the Mother of God and strengthen the Orthodox faith, attracted the pious Orthodox pilgrims from all over the ends of vast Russia. Secondly, in the Glinsky desert strictly observed a strict charter compiled on the model of Athos, which erected her inhabitants to a special height of spiritual life. The distinctive features of the charter of worship and the entire ascetic spiritual system of the life of the Glinsky desert were noted by many researchers. “If you carefully look at all the orders of the monastic life of the Glinsky desert, then you can notice a lot of peculiar, original, unprecedented in other abode.”
