Gobsek. Balzac O. de
Honore de Balzac is undeniable one of the best French novelists of the 19th century. The most important feature of his work is that he not only left behind a huge literary heritage, but also captured the history of the whole society in it. In his “human comedy”, including about a hundred works, a talented master created a grandiose gallery of images - at least two thousand representatives of various classes. Among them, there was a place for a smart, imperious user Gobsek, who holds in his hands the fate of many brilliant Parisian aristocrats. He is a character of several Balzac novels and the novel “Hobsek” (1830), which is presented in this book.
The hero of the philosophical novel published here “Shagrenic Leather” (1831) is also becoming a hunter for money. Through his history, the author expressed an important thought for himself: a person who betrayed his own ideals loses the right to happiness and inevitably goes to death.
