Today it is generally accepted that the Crusades have become one of the shameful and terrible pages of Christian history and stand on a par with hunting witches in the Middle Ages and the cooperation of the Church with the Nazis during the Second World War. Often it can be heard that during the Crusades the aggressive, imperialist Christian world cut, robbed and colonized tolerant and peaceful Muslims, under the pretext of the struggle for the Holy Earth, the crusaders went beyond the lands and gold and forcibly turned into their faith. Was it really? What were the Crusades? Why do they most often give them just such an assessment today?
