The book sets the problem of the hermeneutic interpretation of the “inner world” (in the meaning dating back to D.S. Likhachev) N.V. Gogol’s “Dead Souls” poems through its consideration in various literary and metaphysical contexts of Russia and Western Europe. In line with the ideas of M.M. Bakhtin, the connections of the poems with various genre (as well as plot and motive) modifications - folklore, ancient, renaissance, baroque, educational, romantic, etc., with the philosophy of Heraclitus, F. Schelling, S.N. Bulgakova, M. Heidegger.
