Grad desert. Chitty Derevas
The book “Grad the Desert” was written by the Doctor of Theology, the priest of the Anglican Church by the father of Dervas James Chitty (1901-1971). This wonderful work, which saw the light in 1966, is a somewhat revised lecture course read by the author in 1959-60. in Birkbeck College, and, in the words of the author, is no more than an introductory outline on the history of the first three centuries of Egyptian and Palestinian monasticism (sending the reader to more serious research and original works indicated in the notes), which could become for future researchers kind of starting point or landmark. This, which has long become classic, the work on the history of ancient Christian monasticism, in which the wealth of the material and the severity of its presentation are combined with the unusual liveliness of the presentation, has not lost its significance to this day.
