The Greek-Turkish war of 1897 was one of the local conflicts on the outskirts of Europe. However, its significance cannot be underestimated: the eastern question for a whole century attracted the attention of the great powers, and the fate of the Ottoman Empire excited all European capitals. The short campaign ended with the victory of the Turkish army, which clearly demonstrated that the Empire of Sultanov was still able to fend for itself.
