The book reflects the formation and development of trade ties between mainland Europe and the British Islands. The evolution of entrepreneurship is studied: how unions of cities arose from the associations of merchants. The author analyzes the structure of trade, reconstructs fluctuations in its volume and value based on primary sources (mainly customs documents). A special role in the formation of trade ties was played by political and diplomatic negotiations between the two parties. It was the Western, British vector of the Hansa activity that was a significant for the fate of the League itself, all European trade and navigation as a whole.
