The five -year -old Hidy orphan is sent to Swiss Alps to live with an inhospitable grandfather. The neighbors pity her, but Heidi soon finds out that the outwardly gloomy grandfather has a kind and affectionate heart, and she likes a new life more and more. She freely runs along the mountains with goats and a new best friend, collects flowers. But the circumstances force her to move to Frankfurt, where there is nothing to breathe because of smoke and soot, and to compose a company as a sick girl who misses the house alone. Will Heidi return home to the mountains?
