The stages of the development of science about chemical analysis since ancient times, including the beginning of the XXI century. It is shown how priorities in the choice of objects of analysis changed, how the analysis methods were born and developed, when the difficult problems arose and solved that gave a powerful impetus to the development of analytical chemistry. The development trends of this science are analyzed. Information about organizational forms and ensuring joint activities of analysts is given. Particular attention is paid to the methodological aspects of analytical chemistry.
