Holy Great Martyr Catherine
Holy Catherine (Greek “always clean”) was born in Alexandria at the end of the 3rd century. Being a noble family, it was distinguished by extraordinary beauty and wisdom. Turned to Christ with one desert, she was awarded a wonderful vision by legend: the Lord Jesus Christ himself called her his bride. Saint Catherine accepted the martyrdom during the reign of Emperor Maximin Daza (305-313). With her firmness in faith, she turned many to her heavenly groom. In the book, along with the description of the life and suffering of the Great Martyr Catherine, the canon and an akathist in honor of her, materials about the abode of her name are collected, and the thoughts of the Holy Fathers of the Church about martyrdom and monasticism as uncerovity martyrdom are presented.
