Homeric studies. A set in 2 volumes. Klein L.
The first volume of this publication examines the issue of the formation and components of the Homeric epic, the sources of the epic in mythology are traced and the significance of Asia Minor and other countries of the East is considered to be added to the Iliad. The studies of biblical criticism were applied to the study of the Homeric epic, which at one time led to the identification of two layers of the text - Elohist and Yakhvist in the pentateum. Hittite and Egyptian sources are involved in the study.
The main composition of the second volume forms two labor. The first is “ethereal heroes”, with the subtitle “The Origin of the Iliad images”. In this work, the main characters of the Homeric epic (Achilles, Agamemnon, Paris, Elena, Ajax, Hector, Nestor and others) were considered, but not their biographies, but the opportunity to restore the fate of these figures before they became heroes of the epic. Whether they were heroes of historical reality or invented by a poet. As the author of the study believes, neither the other. Another work is the analysis of the “Catalog of Ships” - the famous segment of the second book of Iliad, which has already served as an object of a number of research. Most of them are considered by the “catalog” as an integral block and a more or less adequate reflection of ancient reality, the author considered these states related to different eras, and the text of the “catalog” - a conglomerate that has developed during the gradual accumulation of cells. In addition to these two works, that includes popular essays about the same plots.
