Iliad. Homer

Homer laid the beginning of world literature, the whole variety of its genres. His “Iliad” and “Odyssey” are not only monuments of ancient culture, but also the richest source of information about peace and human nature. The Iliad tells about one of the turning points of the history of ancient Greece, a ten -year siege of Troy, a war, begun in the name of love. Here, legends about gods and heroes, myths and genuine events were closely intertwined.

The text of the world -famous poem, standing at the origins of European literary tradition, is given in the famous translation of N.I. Gnedich, who managed to convey the “simplicity, strength and important calm” of Homer's language.
