In the very first days of the offensive operation “Blau”, the strike parts of the Wehrmacht, rushing to the east, were stopped near the village and Kastorny station. It was here that the glorified 284th Infantry Division, which was commanded by the future hero of Stalingrad, Lieutenant Colonel Batyuk, received combat baptism. Fighters, commanders and political workers of the division showed real courage and selflessness in these battles, and in the most difficult conditions, were able to detain a strong and experienced enemy, without missing him through their line of defense.
